Are you Sozo-ready? The Quest 3/3S check before launch

Headset, room, scan, battery: the checklist for Sozo before it arrives. With a clear verdict on Quest 2: the studio only names Quest 3 and 3S.

A release day runs better when the prep is already done. For Sozo – Tower Defense that means: headset, room and scan should be sorted before you launch the game for the first time. There’s no date yet. The checklist still works today. And it starts with the most important question.

Step 1: Do you have the right headset?

The studio names Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. That’s the current state of the game manual. Quest 2 and Quest Pro are not confirmed. An older studio page did list them once, but the manual doesn’t.

Our reading: Sozo is built as a mixed-reality game. It uses the headset’s room scan and depth occlusion so real furniture can hide game objects. That points to the current headset generation. If you have a Quest 2, don’t plan on Sozo until the store page says otherwise.

Step 2: Firmware and storage

The basics that apply before any Quest launch:

  • Install system updates. A current system avoids problems with room scan and hand tracking.
  • Check your storage. Sozo’s file size is still unknown. A bit of headroom on the headset never hurts.
  • Controller batteries. Sozo works with controllers and with hands. If you use controllers, you don’t want to be hunting for batteries mid-boss-wave.

Step 3: Keep Space Setup current

Sozo reads your room via Meta’s Space Setup. An out-of-date scan is the most common cause of grief in mixed-reality games. According to the studio, every game starts with a room selection screen. There you confirm the room with DEFEND, switch to another room, or start a fresh scan with RESCAN.

Our tip: scan the room the way you want to play in it. If the coffee table sits off to the side while you play, scan it there. Sozo builds the path around the furniture it detects. Same room plus same level gives the same layout every time, according to the studio.

Step 4: Floor and walls

What Sozo needs from the room:

  • Clear floor space. Building happens only on the floor, never on tables or furniture. The path is up to 5 metres long at first and grows to up to 10 metres by level 30.
  • A clear wall. The floor cracks need, according to the studio, a wall at least one metre long with clear floor in front of it. Doors, windows and wall art are avoided.
  • Headroom. Flyers come out of a hole about 1.5 metres above the floor. You swing at them. Hanging lamps within swinging range are not a good idea.

If you’re short on space, VR mode is the alternative. It uses a fixed field of 3.4 × 3.8 metres in front of you and blanks out the room.

Step 5: Safety before the first swing

Sozo is a standing game with arm movements. Before you start:

  • Clear fragile things out of your arms’ reach.
  • Watch out for pets and children in the room.
  • In VR mode you can’t see your walls. According to the studio, the game brings up a hex shield when your head or hand gets too close to a real wall or piece of furniture. The Quest’s Guardian is active as well.
  • Take breaks. The game has a pause function in the wrist menu and via the menu button.

Step 6: Battery and session length

According to the studio, a level has 5 to 15 waves that follow each other without a pause. Boss levels run longer. Charge the headset fully before your first evening. If you’re planning longer sessions, think about a power solution that doesn’t get in the way while you move.
