Item 1: The story
The campaign follows a fixed order:
- Prologue – “She’s In Your Room Now”. A phone call, footsteps behind you, an axe at the end.
- Chapter I: The Witch – Don’t look. Weapon: axe.
- Chapter II: The Hands – Arms break out of your walls. Weapon: axe.
- Chapter III: The Doll – A porcelain doll copies you. Weapon: baseball bat.
- Chapter IV: The Hole – A hole in the floor, skulls in the dark. Weapons: revolver and torch.
- Chapter V: The Darkness – A wall opens onto a graveyard. Weapon: pistol.
- Chapter VI: The Mirror – A nun with her mouth sewn shut. Weapon: a mirror that reflects beams back.
- Chapter VII: The Puppy – No weapon.
- Finale: The Mother – A lighter and your bare hands.
- Epilogue – One last call.
The studio says this takes 25 to 35 minutes. After the credits, New Game+ unlocks, with changed menu text and dialogue.
The “8 chapters” question
The store says “8 chapters + 2 secret chapters; 3 additional game modes”. But the list above shows ten sections. How does that add up?
Most likely the store is counting chapters I to VII plus the finale. That would make the prologue and epilogue framing, not chapters. The studio hasn’t confirmed this reading. We think it’s plausible and flag it as our interpretation.
Item 2: Chapter select
Under Chapters, every chapter is open from the start. Completed chapters are marked. That’s unusually generous: if you want to show a friend one specific chapter, you don’t have to start from the beginning.
Item 3: Three arcade modes
Under Games sit three endless wave modes. Each turns a story monster into a score game:
- Grave Rush (from Chapter V): zombie shooter, walkers and runners from wave 2. Headshot bonus, slow motion on special kills.
- Arm Cutter (from Chapter II): knocking announces the arms. From wave 3 they come from the ceiling too. CLOSE-CALL bonus.
- Skull Hunt (from Chapter IV): torch in the left hand, laser-sighted revolver in the right. The beam freezes skulls.
Shared systems: combo multiplier up to ×8, three hearts, coins for kills and waves, a top-five high-score list per mode.
Item 4: The Bone Market
The shop belongs to the arcade only, not the story. There you unlock and upgrade weapons, each across five tiers (roughly damage, fire rate, reload, magazine, range). Unlock prices:
- Shotgun: 450 coins
- Sword: 600 coins
- Assault rifle: 900 coins
Plus supplies: an armour plate as an extra heart and “Second Wind” as a one-off revive.
Item 5: Two secret chapters
“Open Wide” and “High Tide” are the two secret chapters. They’re unlocked with codes you draw on your real floor with a controller or your finger. What those shapes are is deliberately not in this piece. After your first story run, the game itself gives you a hint.
Item 6: Comfort and help
- The camera is never moved by the game.
- After every death: Help, with a solution hint.
- From the third death in a chapter: Skip chapter.
- Hide my room replaces passthrough with a virtual padded cell, aimed at streamers.
What’s missing from the build
- No additional languages.
- No multiplayer, no co-op.
- No seated mode.
- No store reviews at launch.
- No public roadmap. What comes after 0.2.0 is unknown.
What to watch next
The version number 0.2.0 doesn’t automatically mean Early Access. The store states plainly: not Early Access. The interesting question is whether later updates bring new modes or languages. We’ll note that only once it’s in the store.
Buy, wait or skip?
For £3.99 the list is long. Buy if you’re an adult and want horror in your own room. Wait if half an hour of story is too little for you and you want to know whether the arcade holds up first. Skip if the PEGI 18 warning applies to you. Head to the HAUNTED store page.
