MindIsland, day one: a meditation on your problem, in seconds

First contact with the current MindIsland build: prompt, daily meditation, 3/5/10 minutes, postures, library. What's in, what's missing, and whether to pounce.

Quick verdict first: MindIsland isn’t selling a library, it’s selling an idea. You type in what’s on your mind and get a guided meditation on exactly that within seconds. The idea holds up in the very first session. The gaps are real: only one free meditation, no evidence of languages other than English, no sleep tracking. If you’re wrestling with specific worries, test it now. If you want a huge library, better to wait.

We’re referring to the current build. The App Store listing is version 2.9 from 5 October 2026. The app runs on iPhone and iPad from iOS 15, plus Android.

What shipped

The core is the prompt field. The question is roughly: what would you like to meditate on? You type a sentence. For example: “Big presentation tomorrow, the thoughts won’t stop.” Next to the typing area there’s a voice input icon.

After that you choose three things:

  • Length: 3, 5 or 10 minutes. There are no more tiers.
  • Voice: several calm voices. The official screenshot shows “Luna – Female”. These are AI voices, not human narrators.
  • Background sound: optional. The music drops lower as soon as someone speaks.

Then the session starts. Every one begins with the same breath: four seconds in, brief pause, six seconds out. After that comes the three-part structure. First the problem is acknowledged. Then it’s gently reframed. Finally the breathing and silence carry you into calm.

The extras around the core

Daily meditation. If you don’t want to type anything, there’s a freshly generated meditation waiting every morning.

Postures. The guidance adapts to four positions: chair, floor cross-legged, lying down or standing. Standing, for example, means: on a packed train, eyes open, holding on.

Library. Ready-made meditations in eight handcrafted categories, including Breathe, Sleep, Focus, Anxiety Relief and Gratitude. The maker says new ones are added regularly.

Articles. Short pieces on mindfulness, mindset and philosophy, from Stoicism to modern psychology. Plus a daily quote.

History and stats. Day Streak, total sessions, total time. Past meditations can be revisited, rated and favourited.

Offline. The last ten meditations are cached on the device.

Privacy. DSGVO-compliant, according to the website. Exporting all your data and deleting your account are possible at any time.

What’s missing

A launch report without gaps would be advertising. So:

  • Only one free meditation. After that you need Premium or a voucher. We didn’t find a trial period in the listings.
  • No evidence of foreign languages. The website exists in eight languages. For meditations in German or French there’s no evidence. We’re assuming English.
  • No sleep tracking. Despite “Sleep” in the store name: no sleep analysis, no alarms, no sleep stories. There’s just a Sleep category in the library.
  • No library size. Eight categories are known. How many sessions sit inside them, the maker doesn’t say.
  • Unclear allowances. The store hints at a monthly allowance you can top up with credit packs. How big it is, nowhere says.

Price on launch day

In the US App Store, MindIsland Premium Monthly cost $12.99 on 10 October 2026. Credit packs there were $5.99 (5 credits), $8.99 (10) and $12.99 (20). Other Premium products are listed, but their durations aren’t. We haven’t checked UK prices. Please check your own store before buying.

What MindIsland is not

According to the store description, the app is intended for relaxation and personal reflection. It is not a medical device and offers no therapy, diagnosis or treatment. That’s honestly worded, and we’re passing it on as is. Anyone dealing with persistent anxiety or insomnia belongs with professionals, not just in an app.

What to watch next

  • How good the generation gets with very specific prompts. The structure is well thought out. The quality in individual cases will have to prove itself over weeks.
  • Whether the library grows. “Regularly new sessions” is a promise you can check after a month.
  • Whether the allowance becomes transparent. A clear sentence in the store would help a lot of buying decisions.
  • How the habit feels after seven days. Our week-one report is coming on that.

Launch Score and recommendation

Our Launch Score: 8.8 out of 10. That’s the editors’ opinion, not a test result. The app earns points for the clear core idea, the fixed structure and the thoughtful postures. It loses points for the skimpy free trial and the open questions around the allowance.

Buy, wait or skip? Test it now if generic recordings have never suited you and you meditate in English. Wait if you first want clarity on the monthly allowance. Skip if you’re after sleep tracking or a huge library of human teachers. All the details are on the official MindIsland page.
